Tips for Better and Healthy Sleep: How to Sleep Better Every Night

Tips to Sleep Well.

Sleep is as important and essential for our body as water and food. Our health, outlook, and performance are directly affected by the quantity and quality of sleep we take. Doctors recommend an average of seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Age is the most important factor on how much sleep you require.

Various factors can have an effect on the quantity and quality of sleep like alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and exercise.

Alcohol works as a depressant and can help out some persons fall asleep. On the other hand, it badly influences the quality of sleep. Alcohol is metabolized in a few hours and can cause wakefulness in the middle of night.

Caffeine works as a barrier to adenosine, the neurotransmitter that helps to promote sleep. You should not have any caffeine or a cup of coffee after 2pm in order to promote a good and healthy sleep in the night.

Nicotine works as a refreshment to the nervous system making it harder to fall asleep. At least one to two hours before going to bed in the night try to avoid smoking or chewing tobacco.

Exercise is only the healthy way to enhance the quantity and quality of deep sleep. However, doing exercises right before going to bed in the night can make it further difficult to fall asleep. Late afternoon or at least three hours before bedtime is the best time to do exercise.

Contact your family doctor in case you are having trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, sleeping excessively, or experiencing abnormal behaviors during sleep then you might have a sleep disorder.
