Most of us dread a hospital stay and with better reason than we knew. According to the Department of Health and Human Services about 15,000 patients a month in the U.S. suffer from harm done by the hospital. Some don’t live to tell about it. The government has set up programs to curb some of these mistakes and make patients safer. The Institute of Medicine warned us a decade ago that 98,000 patients die every year from mistakes made in the hospital where they were receiving care.
