Negative Effects of Obesity

What are the effects of carrying too much extra weight?

If you are one of the millions of people in the world who are overweight, it might be good for you to take the time to stop and think about the damage that you may be doing to your own body. A lot of people don’t realise just how much difference your weight can make on your general health, and this means that they don’t feel as though they need to bother to lose weight. The following article will discuss how being obese can effect your health. Please share it on social networking websites to show everyone just how bad this can be.

  • You’re much more likely to be unfit. By “unfit”, I mean not being able to do the things that other people take for granted, such as taking your children outside to play, and walking to the top of the stairs without getting out of breath. If you think about it, this kind of thing does make sense because it is bound to take much more energy to move if you are carrying extra weight.
  • Your immune system is not as strong. If you’re finding that you suffer from certain illnesses more than your friends, it might be because of your weight. It has been clinically proven that those who are obese are much more likely to suffer from colds and flu, because their bodies aren’t as strong as those who are not overweight. As well as the weight being a problem, an unhealthy diet can also contribute to this. Changing your diet would help in both boosting your immune system and losing weight.
  • You are more likely to suffer from heart disease. If you are overweight, there will most likely be dangerous fatty deposits in your arteries which mean that your blood struggles to make its way around your body. This means that your body has to work a lot harder to pump the blood around, therefore tiring out the organ earlier in life than it would have been in other people.
  • You’re more likely to suffer from cancer. There are only certain types of cancer that are made more likely be obesity, but it is a scary statistic that should not be ignored. More people are being diagnosed with obesity related cancers than ever before, and this is having an amazingly negative impact on their families because of the fact that cancer is something that touches the hearts of many.
  • Your fertility may be affected. This is both male and female fertility, and the truth is that you’re much less likely to be able to have a child if you are overweight. It is not impossible, but obesity is directly related to fertility levels, with it being less likely that you will conceive the more overweight you become. Luckily, most of this damage isn’t permanent, and it is likely to be reversed when you lose the weight.
  • You are more likely to be diagnosed with a mental illness. It is not entirely known how “physical” this effect is, as being overweight can mean that your self esteem is lower anyway, but there is an undeniable link between depression and obesity. Exercising and having a decent diet can really help to reduce levels of mental illness, so losing weight could prevent you from developing depression or improve the situation if you are already depressed. Anxiety can also be improved with weight loss and exercise.

If you have read this, and are worried that you might be at risk of getting of the above conditions, then you can rest assured that it is not the end of the road. If you lose weight, you can indeed improve your health by losing weight. I would advise a visit to the doctor’s as they will be able to help you start.
If you have a friend who needs to lose weight, and can’t quite find the motivation, then send them the link to this article because it might be the thing that they need to read in order to help them.

  2. very true about what you have written, you must look after yourself where weight and diet are concerned, too much alcohol can be fattening and causes dry skin, everything in moderation with exercise.
