Headache Dealing

Sickness steals time and happiness. A headache is often nature’s warning that something is wrong somewhere in the body. Taking an aspirin or a tranquilizer may provide temporary relief but it does not remove the cause. Rather pain relievers cause nervous debility, weakness the heart and brings on other complications.

The common causes of headaches are :-

(a)      Allergy :      Some people are allergic to certain foods which trigger headaches are milk and milk products, chocolates, chicken liver, alcohol, strong cheese, certain processed foods, Chinese food etc. Sneezing and diarrhea are further indication of an allergy. 

 Keep a food diary and cut out suspect foods one by one.

(b)      Low Blood Sugar : If you wake up with a headache, low blood sugar could be the culprit. Sugar is not a cure for low blood sugar. This is the result of an abused pancreas which over stimulates the production of insulin in the body. Try to maintain levels by eating a snack last thing at night and again on waking in the morning.

(c)      Emotional Reasons : Many headaches are caused by tensions-mental, Physical or both. If your head is throbbing and you feel there is pressure behind your eyes and a tight band around your head, you probably have a tension headache. Many people who outwardly appears to have a pleasant disposition may actually be simmering aloud a job, or may bear resentment towards a person or something. This hidden hostility may manifest itself as headache. So the negative feelings should not be bottled up but should find some safe means of expression.

(d)      High Blood Pressure : High B.P can cause pounding headaches. The headache usually starts at the back of the head on getting up in the morning.

A safe method of treatment for this is to immerse your legs to calf level in a tub of hot water for 15 to 20 minutes. This draws the blood away from the head and down to the feet, giving relief from the headache.

(e)          Eye Strain : It is a common cause. An eye specialist should be consulted. Simple eye exercise such as moving the eye up and down and from side to side, palming, rotating the head with neck out stretched, forward and backward three times, then thrice clockwise and thrice anti-clockwise can relieve eye strain.
