How to Remove a Ring From a Swollen Finger
When you sprain a finger or part of your hand, the first thing you must do is to remove the ringer from the sprained finger or in case of a sprain to a part of a hand, all the rings from the fingers of that hand.

However, easier said than done; the reason being that a sprain to a finger is very painful and the only thing one can think of when it happens, is to try subduing the pain. Believe, it is extremely painful! But then the finger starts to swell in the blink of an eye and the ring is stuck to your finger!
In this case; here is one method you can try to get the ring off:
1. Push the end of a thin piece of string under the ring in the direction of your hand. The best type is to use dental floss and you can use an awl to assist with pushing the string or floss under the ring but be careful not to hurt you further.
2. Then start at the end of the ring nearest to the knuckle and wrap the string or floss snugly around that knuckle.
3. Then continue wrapping the string or floss around the knuckle. Each wrap should be right next to the one before; moving towards the end of the finger until the entire knuckle is wrapped up snugly.
4. Firmly grasp the end of the string that is stuck under the ring and pull towards the end of your finger. The ring will move over the wrapped knuckle until it is clear of the knuckle and can then move freely off your finger.
The reason why floss works the best for me is that it is naturally waxed which assists the smooth gliding over the wrapped knuckle.
Always remember, prevention is better than cure – therefore, the first thing to do when you sprain a finger or even just hurt a finger is to take off all rings.

I didn’t have that good of luck with my rings my finger swelled until the rings disappeared on my finger. I found out later that no medicine can nume a swollen finger and they had to saw through my swollen flesh to the rings to cut them off. Needless to say my wedding rings are in several pieces in a box in my closet.
