New Breakthroughs for Lactose Intolerance
Due to new research, those who are lactose intolerant are eating more dairy than before. Eating dairy products with other foods sometimes does not bring on symptoms. Especially yogurt which produces enzymes that digest lactose. Packets of a product (LactAid) that breaks down lactose in dairy is also on the market. The same manufacture also markets products that are ready to use. More options are available for lactose intolerance, so don’t be discouraged.
Thanks to new research, diets for the lactose intolerant are no longer based solely on avoiding lactose containing food. You’ll want to note that research broadens, not limits, your food choices. Eating lactose products with other foods enables patients to tolerate milk products better. When consumed with foods such as corn flakes, bananas, and hard cooked eggs, much of the lactose in milk goes undigested. You can also buy packs of lactose enzymes that breaks down lactose in food before you eat it. Sold under the name LactAid, it’s available in drug stores or can be ordered from the manufacture. You will find it on Google. The same manufacture also markets LactAid treated milk, cottage cheese, cheese, and ice cream. These products have been treated with LactAid, and are ready to use.

It’s not only the amount of lactose, but also the form it’s in. About 80% of lactose intolerant subjects complain of symptoms after drinking milk, but only about 20% after eating yogurt containing the same amount of lactose. Researchers conclude that yogurt contains enzymes that can digest lactose. It’s no wonder yogurt is so popular in countries where lactose intolerance is the rule.
There are plenty of options for the lactose intolerant, so don’t despair. Once you have determined your personal tolerance for dairy products, you can adjust your diet to fit. Some foods suggested by nutritional experts to fit your nutritional needs are listed below. It’s also a good idea to take calcium and vitamin supplements.
