10 Best Asanas for Post-Pregnancy

Reduce Your Extra Weight. Get your shape back.

Though the entry of a new life, a bouquet of rose, gives happiness, the shape of the body seen in mirror will never give you pleasing smile in your face. Here are few asanas, which help in bringing your shape back.

You can start with the very simple exercise of raising your leg, up the ground level, sitting on a chair or cot from the 5th day onwards, if yours is a normal delivery. Women who had c-section can wait up to 3 weeks to start. But they can go for a walking to start with from the 10th day or as per doctor’s advice.

Once when started feeling comfort with all routines, the below asanas can be done.

  1. Konasana

This asana can be done in both types. One is lying down and another in sitting. Lie down on the floor. Bring the inner side of the feet together, as shown in picture. Rest your hands below your abdomen.

This will tone your lower abdomen muscles and pelvic muscles.

  2. Dhanurasana

The word Dhanu means Bow. Lie down on the floor upside down. That is, lie down on your stomach. Slowly raise your legs. Hold the ankle (below your legs) by your hands as shown in the image. Then slowly leave the legs and bring it down to normal. Repeat this for 10 times.

This will tone your abdomen muscles and helps in reducing the flabby appearance and excess fat in the tummy.

  3. Paschimottanasana

Sit on the floor, with your legs stretched out. Keep your back straight. Then slowly bend down until your head touches your knee. Your face should be in between your legs. Hold the feet with hands and be in this posture for few minutes. Slowly raise and relax. Repeat this for 10 times.

  4. Sarvangasana

This is little tough to do in the beginning. Don’t strain and get pains. Lie down on the floor. Slowly raise your legs, hips until you rest on your shoulders. Mistakes can lead to neck pain. So be very careful. You can leave this asana, if not so confident in balancing yourself.
