11 Health Benefits of Avocado
Here is a good article about the benefits of avocado.
I always find lucky the people who live in tropical countries. They are lucky because virtually every kind of fruits, especially rich in vitamin C, are grown there. Someone can find any fruits, orange, banana, avocado and others in those countries. Acceptedly, the main reason in the cultivation of these fruits is climate characteristics. Such countries are always hot and this temperature factor lets many kind of fruits grow there. My favourite one is, of course, avocado because I know numerous benefits of it. I wrote this article because I want to share those benefits with you.
Avocado is grown especially in Mediterranean countries like Portugal, Italy, Spain. Additionally, it is grown in Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, India, China and South African countries where the temperature never go below five degrees, even during the winter season.
Here are the most well-known health benefits of avocado for both adults and kids.
- It protects cholesterol related heart diseases. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
- It is used both in prevention and treatment of prostate and breast cancers. Scientists have proved that a toxin in avocado kills the cancer cells. So-called toxin has a great effect on the tissues, particularly heart muscle tissues.
- Avocado includes necessary minerals like potassium, calcium, vitamin C and K, folic acid, copper, sodium and dietary fibers. These are used to provide the mineral necessity of the body. People who live in hot climates have great mineral and water loss. So, avocado is suggested strongly by the medicals.
- Oleic acid in avocado can be used to lower cholesterol level in the blood.
- Potassium in avocado regulates pressure of blood.
- Sodium reduces the risk of high blood pressure and stoke.
- It improves the ability of the body to absorb carotenoids.
- Avocado is used to help people who have sexual problems.
- It is a good antioxidant.
- It can be used in the treatment of skin disorders.
- It is used to heal people who suffer from digestive and circulatory problems.
Don’t forget that one avocado a day keeps the doctors away.

Although the creamy rich Hass avocados are generally available throughout the year, they are the most abundant and at their best during the spring and summer in California and in October in Florida. During the fall and winter months you can find Fuerto, Zutano and Bacon varieties.

Avocados contain oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that may help to lower cholesterol. In one study of people with moderately high cholesterol levels, individuals who ate a diet high in avocados showed clear health improvements. After seven days on the diet that included avocados, they had significant decreases in total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, along with an 11% increase in health promoting HDL cholesterol.

Enjoying a few slices of avocado in your tossed salad, or mixing some chopped avocado into your favorite salsa will not only add a rich, creamy flavor, but will greatly increase your body’s ability to absorb the health-promoting carotenoids that vegetables provide.

The flesh is typically greenish yellow to golden yellow when ripe. The flesh oxidizes and turns brown quickly after exposure to air. To prevent this, lime or lemon juice can be added to avocados after they are peeled; vitamin C in the juice acts as an antioxidant. The avocado is very popular in vegetarian cuisine, making an excellent substitute for meats in sandwiches and salads because of its high fat content. The fruit is not sweet, but fatty, flavorful, and of smooth, almost creamy texture. It is used as the base for the Mexican dip known as guacamole, as well as a filling for several kinds of sushi, including California rolls. Avocado is popular in chicken dishes and as a spread on toast, served with salt and pepper. In Brazil and Vietnam, avocados are frequently used for milk-shakes and occasionally added to ice cream. In the Philippines, a dessert drink is made with sugar, milk, and pureed avocado.

If you are looking to cure something, there are no cures… But if you are looking for a healthy way to flush toxins from your body, eating fresh is the only way to go. Fresh fruits and vegetables have natural enzymes, chemicals, and vitamins that when used or consumed give your body a natural help in flushing your system of toxins, including natural body toxins. I like this article and this site because if researched further most people would be able to give an honest review of the difference in their over-all health when eating fresh. Using fresh can help the body in so many different ways it is endless to think that one particular is the only way to go if when putting it all together does your body react. Everybody knows toxins are bad so remember this when you eat or bathe you are not just consuming to live you are soothing your soul.

Avocados can be grown from seed, but the plants are usually propagated by grafting. They are set in the grove 20 to 40 feet apart depending upon whether the type of growth is spreading or upright. Sometimes they are set at 15 to 20 feet with the alternate plants removed after a few years.

That is a fantastic piece of information on the uses of Avocado. Over here in India it ias grown in abundance, but was shunned as they thought it was fattening. Hence when the imported ones cost US$ 4/- per Kg. The local one goes for US$1. I believe that when it is ripe here, the colour changes frm Green to Brown and then black

Avocado is popular due to the high contents of Vitamin K and Vitamin A. Vitamin E in the avocados is a good antioxidant and helps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Carotenoid lutein in avocado helps in maintaining the health of the eyes. The avocado nutritional information reveals that this fruit contains many essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. Avocados contain beta-sitosterol which is a natural plant sterol that helps to maintain healthy cholesterol levels. The fiber content of avocados is beneficial for those who suffer from indigestion and gastric problems. Avocados are also beneficial for those who suffer from acidity problem. Calcium and potassium in avocados are good for strengthening and maintaining the bones in the body. This fruits also helps to cleanse the body in an effective way.
Hair care and skin care are the other major health benefits of avocado. Avocado paste can be applied on the skin rashes or rough skin to make the skin smooth and soft. As avocados are rich in magnesium, they are good for muscle contraction and relaxation. Psoriasis and bad breadth can be well treated by eating avocados. Rubbing avocado fruit on the skin helps to heal sunburn. Potassium in avocados helps to maintain the electrolyte balance in the body. Also, folate present in avocados helps to promote healthy development of muscles and tissues in the body. The traditional health benefit of avocado is that it is used to treat sexual problems. The recommended intake of avocado fruit is half fruit several times a week. Avocados can be included in the diet by mixing them in salads or having a salad sandwich for lunch. If you know anything about avocados you will know that they are pretty high in fat content, but before you go and judge the avocado, you might want to take a close look at the avocado and how it can help your health. Yes, the avocado has many great wonders, it has many undiscovered possibilities, and it is definitely a super food. Even though the avocado is full of fats, you need to look at what type of fats it has. Yes, it has some saturated fat but what it has more of and a lot of it is monounsaturated fat. I know what you are asking, what the heck is monounsaturated fat? You think that fat is fat and that it is bad for you, but that is not sure, there are some great fats out there that do not make you fat, one of them being avocado fat. Research has found that diets high in monounsaturated fat is great for controlling your weight, because it has beneficial effects on your blood sugar. Another thing that an avocado has is carbohydrates, and most of us try to stay away from carbs, but the great thing about the avocado is that is has almost as more dietary fiber than it has carbs, so it pretty much cancels it out. But even the carbs in an avocado has some benefits. The avocado also contains a carb called mannoheptulose, which helps lower insulin secretion. The avocado is not only good for weight control.

1. Avocado has been used traditionally to help people with sexual problems.
2. Great antioxidant and can be used for skin disorders
3. Avocado will aid healing for people suffering from digestive and circulatory problems
4. Another benefit of avocado for the skin where avocado paste can be applied to rashes and rough skin to make it smoother.
5. The brighter the fruit, the more beta-carotene (the substance that helps to prevent cancer) your avocado contains.

Avocado is a good source of potassium, a mineral that helps regulate blood pressure. Adequate intake of potassium can help guard against circulatory diseases, like high blood pressure, heart disease, or stroke.
Diets containing foods that are good sources of potassium and low in sodium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. One cup of avocado has about 23% of the Daily Value for folate, a nutrient important for heart health.
Another study showed that individuals who consume folate-rich diets have a much lower risk of cardiovascular disease or stroke than those who do not consume much of this vital nutrient.
Not only avocado has a rich source of monounsaturated fatty acids including oleic acid, which has recently been shown to offer significant protection against breast cancer, but it is also a very concentrated dietary source of the “carotenoid lutein”. It also contains measurable amounts of related carotenoids plus significant quantities of vitamin E.
A few slices of avocado in salad, or mixing some chopped avocado into salsa will not only add a rich, creamy flavor, but will greatly increase your body’s ability to absorb the health-promoting carotenoids that vegetables provide.
pazyman | Oct 7, 2009 | Reply
Avocados are a good way to get more lutein in the diet. An ounce of avocado contains 81 micrograms of lutein. Lutein has been shown to be concentrated in the macula of the eye, and research suggests that it may help maintain healthy eyesight as we age.
Lutein is a natural antioxidant that may help maintain eye health as we get older. By adding avocado to foods like salads, salsa, soups or sandwiches you can get more of the phytonutrient lutein in your diet.

The avocado contains little vitamin B 12 and calcium, limited zinc and modest phosphorus. Its half-a-fruit quota of riboflavin and thiamine for children is about 9.5 and 8%, respectively, hence about equal to its relative calorie contribution. But the striking thing is that no less than eight essential nutrients are apparently present in about a 2: 1 calorie ratio. Nor is that all; three additional nutrients, potassium, copper and pantothenic acid, (for which I could not find precise Recommended Dietary Allowances) are also estimated to be present in avocado at about twice the calorie content. Per calorie, the avocado is indeed remarkably nutritious.
There is not space here to discuss either the human body’s uses or the status in typical diets of these various nutrients. Judgments vary; several surveys have concluded that one or another of them is deficient in a considerable portion of American diets. Next we will look briefly at one of the least discussed vitamins in the group of nutrients provided by the avocado.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is important for the nervous system, red blood cells, teeth and gums. The Harvard Health Letter for March, 1991, reported 1990 data indicating that most Americans consume too little of vitamin B6.
