Killing You Softly

Are soft drinks killing you?

Since there is no daily minimum requirement for refined sugar, why are you eating any?  For that matter, given that refined sugar is clearly doing more harm than good, why are you feeding that poison to you kids?

We eat sugar because it tastes good.  we give it to our children because it keeps them quiet for five minutes.

What is the single thing that if eliminated could in large part wipe out America’s obesity in a year.  Eliminate soft drinks.  Replace them not with sweet fruit juices but with wate

Our bodies are over 70% water.  Even our brains are mostly water.  When a man is lost in the desert he does not suffer and die from the lack of refined sugar.  It is water that he thirsts for and it is the lack of water that will kill him in four days if he does not get any.

If ever you are put in charge of making an emergency kit for the family–you know that kit that the government has told you that you should think about creating any number of times.  Yeah, that one.  If you are ever in charge of that, remember that you could live for weeks without food but only days without water.  The survival kit we are each of us supposed to have should last us for three days without government services or help.  If you think no one anywhere would need such a thing you need to brush up on your lessons of hurricane Katrina.   Depending on where you live in the country you have your pick of potential disasters.  In Florida it’s hurricanes.  In California it’s earthquakes.  In the center of the country it’s tornadoes.  If disaster caused an interruption of the water supply what would you do?   If you don’t have a little extra water on hand the answer may be unpleasant.

Water is the essence of life and the basis of a good diet.  Veggies are next.  Then some fruit and then a variety of other foods to round out the essential nutrients.

But what about diet soft drinks?  Some researchers say that even diet drinks are metabolized in such a way in the body that they lead to weight gain.

Besides water the only liquid that is known to be of benefit is tea.  In fact given the antioxidants and other nutrients in tea it is probably part of a good diet.

Sweet fruit juices have too much sugar to be drunk very often.  Once a week in moderation probably wouldn’t hurt.
