Lose Weight And Body-Fat By Taking L-Glutamine Instead of L-Carnitine

I wanted to do my own study comparing the use of L-Glutamine Vs. L-Carnitine on myself. I’ve always heard about the benefits of both, but which was going to help me lose more body-fat over the other, and which is more cost effective?

*Disclaimer: This is by no means an endorsement of either of these supplements. These are my results. If you intend on giving either of these supplements a try, do so at your own risk.

After losing weight years ago, I still wasn’t quite in the physical shape I wanted to be in. I still wanted to lose a bit of body-fat. I heard years ago that L-Carnitine was a great supplement for doing so. I’ve also heard a lot about L-Glutamine, but I wanted to see both results for myself.

* About L-Carnitine.

L-Carnitine boosts energy by stimulating the body’s burning of tryglycerides as fuel, and sparing the supply of glycogen stored in the liver for heavier exertion. During exercise, the body will burn fat at a rate of 75-80% of maximum exertion, thus less glycogen from carbohydrates is burned. L-carnitine allows the body to burn more fat, save more glycogen, and ultimately boost stamina and endurance. By providing more fat to the muscles, carnitine makes accessible an otherwise unavailable energy source. Hence, the theory goes, that the body will burn more stored body-fat in the presence of extra L-Carnitine.

* About L-Glutamine.

Glutamine is highly in demand throughout the body. It is used in the gut and immune system extensively to maintain optimal performance. 60% of free-form amino acids floating in skeletal muscles is L-Glutamine. L-Glutamine plays a very important role in protein metabolism, and it appears to be a very important nutrient for body builders. When supplemented, it may help body builders reduce the amount of muscle deterioration that occurs because other tissues that need L-Glutamine will not rob the Glutamine stored in the muscle cells.

I decided to give L-Carnitine a try, and see what results I got. It seemed to make some(though very little) difference for the first 2-3 bottles, but then I noticed a huge taper off in my results. I decided to “cycle off” of it for 2 weeks, then go back to use up my last fourth bottle. It was a bit pricey for the 60 capsules I was getting, and I wasn’t satisfied with my results. That last bottle didn’t seem to do anything, and I wasn’t even feeling good taking it.

I decided to give L-Glutamine a shot next because of it’s ability to help the body recover quicker after workouts and hold onto muscle. The more muscle we hold onto after training, the more fat we’ll burn. I also remember hearing about it being helpful in controlling sugar cravings. I figured these two benefits alone are worth giving it a shot. I was amazed by my results! L-Carnitine didn’t come close to doing what L-Glutamine did for me. I credit L-Glutamine for quickly helping me lose 4-inches of belly fat! It seemed to strip fat off of me from everywhere!
